ABINGDON.
COUNTY MAGISTRATES' CHAMBERS - Monday.
Before E.K. Lenthall, Esq. (Chairman), the Rev. E.E. Robinson, and A. Harcourt, Esq.
Licensing Offence.- Fanny Pratley, keeper of the Eagle beerhouse, Northcourt, was summoned for selling liquor during prohibited hours on the 9th inst.- P.C. Godwin deposed that at 10.7 p.m. he saw a man named Hazell leave defendant's house, and at a quarter past ten noticed another man named Belcher knock at the door. He heard defendant tell the man to "see if it was safe," and the man afterwards brought away a pint of beer.- Defendant said it was only ten minutes past ten when the policeman brought the man back.- The constable replied that he looked at the time by his watch, and he heard the chimes at Abingdon directly afterwards.- Fined 10s., and 8. 6d. costs. Time was allowed for payment. |
