CHIPPING NORTON.
CHADLINGTON PETTY SESSIONS.
Wednesday, March 19.
Before Mr. T. H. Burbidge (in the chair), Alderman J.B. Bowen, and Mr. J.G. Abraham.
Case of Alleged Wilful Damage Withdrawn.- Mary Ann Pratley, Kingham, was summoned by George Adams, grocer, Kingham, for maliciously damaging a pig-stye, the property of complainant, on March 15th. She pleaded not guilty.- Complainant said that on Sunday morning last he noticed the pig-stye pulled to pieces; the stye was on the premises occupied by defendant and her husband.- P.C. Messenger said from information received he went to defendant's house at Kingham on Sunday evening. Defendant further told witness that she was very sorry, and if she had known she was going to get into trouble over it she would not have pulled the stye down.- Defendant, in the course of some remarks to the magistrates, said her husband put up the posts for the pig-stye, and as they were shortly leaving the house she did not think there was any harm in pulling it down. She was very sorry to have got into trouble over the matter, and had she known, she would, she would not have pulled the stye down on any consideration. She was under the impression that she was acting within her rights when she pulled away the posts which her husband had put in.- Complainant stated that as the magistrates had granted an ejectment order against defendant and her husband, and they would therefore be leaving the premises, he would consent to a withdrawal of the case.- The magistrates agreed to this course, and the case was withdrawn, defendant to pay the costs, 5s. 6d.- Defendant said she was not in a position to pay, and the Bench allowed ten days. |
