CHIPPING NORTON.
CHADLINGTON PETTY SESSIONS - Wednesday.
Before Rev. T. Harris (Chairman), Rev. W.E.D. Carter, and J.F. Penyston, Esq.
School Attendance Cases.- Henry Hall and Alfred Pratley, both of Kingham, were charged with neglecting to send their children to school, contrary to the bye-laws of the School Attendance Committee. Both defendants (who were represented by their wives) pleaded guilty.- Mr. J. Greenshields, School Attendance Officer, said: The return of the principal teacher showed the school was opened from July, 1888, to July, 1899, 420 times. The child Eliza Hall, only made 282 attendances. She was nine years of age, and had not passed standard II. Agnes Pratley had only made 80 attendances out of 420. She was eight years of age, and had passed no standard.- The magistrates taking into consideration that these were first offences, made an order for the future regular attendance of the children at school, and cautioned the parents. |
