SHIPTON-UNDER-WYCHWOOD.
Inquest.- An inquest was held at Langley by F. Westell, Esq., coroner, on Monday, on the body of Emily Ferriman, a married woman, who died on Saturday.- Annie Townsend, a neighbour, said deceased was the wife of Henry Ferriman, a shepherd, and was 32 years old. She was in good health up till Saturday morning, when she gave birth to a child. Mrs. Pratley, a mid-wife came, and in consequence of deceased fainting Mr. Maicey, surgeon, was sent for. Mrs. Ferriman died about two hours and a holf after the child had been born.- Rhoda Pratley, the mid-wife, said the birth took place quite satisfactorily with regard to the child, but in consequence of the mother's condition she at once sent for Mr. Maicey. Deceased was quite sensible up to her death.- Mr. Maicey said he was sent for at eight o'clock, and arrived about ten. The woman was then dead. He described the condition in which he found the deceased, and attributed death to failure of the heart's action. The circumstances attending the birth was very unusual, and most certainly were not caused by anything done or left undone by Mrs. Pratley, the mid-wife. If he had attended the deceased at the time of the birth he should have done what he could to have put matters right, but he had a doubt that he could have saved the deceased life. He did not think the position of the mother when the child was born caused the complications.- The jury found that the deceased died in consequence having given birth to a child. |
