CHADLINGTON DIVISION PETTY SESSIONS.-

school cases at charlbury.

Albion Pratley, also of Charlbury, was summoned for a like offence in respect of his daughter Mary Ann, aged 11 years, who had passed the first standard only, and had attended school but 167 times, the school having been opened on 378 occasions. A letter was sent tot eh Bench stating that Mrs. Pratley, who had a large family, was ill, and that it was necessary to keep her daughter, Mary Ann, at home to assist in the household duties. Mr. Mace stated that Mrs. Pratley had done more to upset the discipline of the school than any other person, and had behaved in the most indecent manner towards the Board. The letter sent to the Bench he (Mr. Mace) characterised as a mere subterfuge.- The Bench fined defendant 2s. 6d., in default of distress, four days' imprisonment.
