Oxford County Quarter Sessions.

WEDNESDAY. - (Before H. Hamersley, Esq.)

misdemeanor at witney.

Bethnal Pratley, 18, was charged with an assault on a decent young woman named Sarah Pratley, on the 7th of August last. Mr. Sawyer prosecuted. The parties, although of the same name, are not related, and resided in the village of Leafield about two miles from Witney. On the day in question the prisoner and prosecutrix were at the feast at Witney, and danced together at a public house until twelve o'clock at night. At that hour prosecutrix stated to go home to Leafield, and the prisoner went with her. When within a short distance of her house prisoner threw her on the ground and attempted to commit the offence with which he was charged. The girl shouted "murder" several times, and a young man came up, when the prisoner ran away. He was found guilty, and sentenced to 9 months' imprisonment with hard labour.

LEAFIELD.

Cricket. - A very interesting match was played at the above village on Wednesday last, between eleven married and eleven single, which, after some excellent play, ended in the defeat of the benedicts by 77 runs, a result to be attributed mainly to the excellent fielding of the single gentlemen. Messrs. Pratley and Williams on the single, and R. Ferriman and Dix on the married side showed an intimate acquaintance with the use of the willow and contributed largely to their respective scores.

 Married. - W. Pratley0 and 4.
 Single. - T. Pratley18 and 23,B. Pratley11 and 2.
