LEAFIELD.
Trespassing in Pursuit of Game.- At the County Petty Sessions, held at Chipping Norton, on Wednesday last, Benjamin Pratley, Stephen Pratley, Launcelot Pratley, and John Dodd, labourers, of Leafield, were charged with trespassing in search of conies on lands at Leafield, belonging to Lord Churchill, on the 31st ult.- James Shayler, under-gamekeeper, deposed to seeing defendants start a rabbit and run after it, one of whom threw a hook and hit the rabbit. Shortly afterwards another one came out of a hole, which they also pursued.- Defendants denied that they were trespassing, but admitted that they ran after a rabbit which started out of some beans which they were engaged in cutting.- Frederick Shayler stated that he did not wish to press the case, it was only as a caution to trespassers that he took out the summons. Discharged on the payment of 2s. 6d. each. |
