PRATLEY Jane 15/05/1875 The Will of Jane Pratley late of Faringdon in the County of Berkshire widow who died 12/04/1875 at Faringdon was proved at Oxford by David Teed of Exmouth in the County of Devon chemist and William Harris of Faringdon gentleman the Nephew the Executors. Full Will:

This is the last Will and Testament of me Jane Pratley of Farringdon in the County of Berks Widow I give and bequeath to my Nephew William Harris (the Son of my late Brother Thomas Harris) and who is now residing with me for his own absolute benefit All my Household Goods and Furniture and other Contents of the Dwellinghouse and premises now in my occupation in Gloucester Street Farringdon aforesaid (except moneys and securities for money and my plate and plated articles linen wearing apparel and jewellery respectively hereinafter disposed of And I give and bequeath my said plate and plated articles (except the six silver teaspoons hereinafter bequeathed) Linen and Jewellery to my Niece Martha Teed (Wife of David Teed of Exmouth in the County of Devon Chemist) for her own absolute benefit And I bequeath my Wearing Apparel and Six Silver Teaspoons to my Servant Ann Yeates provided she shall be in my service at the time of my decease for her absolute benefit And I give and bequeath to my Niece Jane Neatham (the Widow of Thomas Mowbray Neatham of Farringdon aforesaid Innkeeper) the sum of Three hundred pounds in which her said late Husband was at his decease and his Estate now stands indebted to me on Note of hand or otherwise such legacy to be independent of and in addition to the share of residue hereinafter bequeathed to or directed to be paid to her And I give and bequeath to the said David Teed and my said Nephew William Harris All my moneys securities for money stock in the Public Funds and all other my personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore otherwise bequeathed or disposed of To hold the same to them the said David Teed and William Harris their executors administrators and assigns Upon the trusts hereinafter declared concerning the same that is to say Upon trust in the first place to make payment of my debts and my funeral and testamentary expenses and in the next place Upon trust within twelve calendar months next after my decease to retain and pay the several Legacies or sums of money following that is to say to himself my said Nephew William Harris the sum of Eight hundred pounds to my Nephew William Harris of London the sum of One hundred and fifty pounds sterling to my Nephew Richard Harris late of Highworth in the County of Wilts but now of the City of Bristol the like sum of One hundred and fifty pounds sterling to my Great Niece Emily Balls (Daughter of Rebecca Balls deceased the Widow of Nehemiah Balls late of the City of Bristol aforesaid) the like sum of One hundred and fifty pounds sterling to Ann Willetts (the Widow of my late Nephew Henry Willetts) the sum of One hundred pounds sterling to my Great Niece Elizabeth James (the Wife of William James late of Carswell Marsh in the parish of Buckland in the said county of Berks) the sum of One hundred pounds sterling to my Godson Thomas Anns (the Son of Mr John Anns of Farringdon aforesaid Ironmonger) the sum of Fifty pounds sterling to my Goddaughter Mary Knapp the Daughter of the late Mr Richard Knapp the like sum of Fifty pounds sterling to Jane Boone (Wife of William Boone of Bridport in the County of Dorset) the sum of Fifty pounds sterling and to my Servant Ann Yeates provided she shall be in my service at the time of my decease the sum of Ten pounds sterling And I declare that the said legacy of Fifty pounds to the said Jane Boone shall be payable and paid to her in such proportions or instalments as my Executors shall deem advantageous and that the same shall be for her sole and separate use independently and exclusively of her said Husband and shall not be subject or liable to his debts or engagement but that the receipt or receipts of the said Jane Boone shall alone be a sufficient discharge or sufficient discharges for the same And I give and bequeath to the said David Teed and William Harris of Farringdon the sum of Four hundred pounds sterling to be held by them upon the trusts following viz. In trust to invest the same in their names upon real or Government Security India Stock or the Debentures or Debenture Stock of some approved English Railway (with power to vary same at discretion) and during the natural life of the said Jane Boone to pay to her the dividends interest and income thereof for her sole and separate use in manner aforesaid and without any power on her part to charge assign or anticipate the said income and from and immediately after her decease to stand possessed of the said sum of Four hundred pounds Upon trust for my said Niece Martha Teed for her own absolute use and benefit in addition to the share of residue hereinafter directed to be aid to her And as to all the then residue of my said moneys and residuary personal estate upon trust for and to pay and divide the same unto and between my said Nieces Jane Neatham and Martha Teed in equal shares and proportions as tenants in common Provided always that in case any or either of my said residuary legacies shall die in my lifetime the share of my legatee so dying shall not lapse but shall go to and be held in trust for her child or children and if more than one in equal shares and proportions as tenants in common but in the event of the death of any such legatee in my lifetime without leaving issue which shall be living at my decease then the share of any such legatee shall sink into and divided as the then remaining portion of my said residuary personal estate And it is my Will and I hereby declare that as well the income as (at the sole discretion of my Trustees or Trustee) the whole or any part of the principal of the share of any Minor becoming interested under this my Will may be applied by my said Trustees or trustee in the maintenance education bringing up apprenticing putting out or the advancement of any such Minor And I constitute and appoint the said David Teed and William Harris of Farringdon Executors in trust of this my last Will and Testament and I give devise and bequeath to them the said David Teed and William Harris of Farringdon all Estates which at the time of my decease shall be vested in me upon trust by way of Mortgage To hold the same to them the said David Teed and William Harris of Farringdon their heirs executors administrators and assigns respectively according to the nature of the property upon the trusts and subject to such equity of redemption as shall be then respectively subsisting therein but the money secured upon any mortgage or mortgages to constitute and be applied as part of my personal estate And I declare that my Trustees shall not be answerable to one for the other of them nor for any more monies than each individual Trustee shall actually receive nor for involuntary losses and that it shall be lawful for them to reimburse themselves and each other all costs charges and expenses which they shall be put to or sustain for or by reason of this my Will or in discharging the trusts hereby in them reposed In witness whereof I the said Jane Pratley the Testatrix have to each sheet of this my Will and Testament which is contained in three sheets of paper set my hand this Seventh day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and seventy four
