CHIPPING NORTON.

CHADLINGTON DIVISION PETTY SESSIONS.

Before Capt. Waller (chairman), C. Samuda and A.A. Webb, Esqs.

Non-attendant at School.- Charles Pratley, of Chadlington, was summoned to appear on account of the insufficient number of attendances at school made by his son, Charles Pratley.- The defendant was represented by his wife, and Mr. T. Greenshields, school attendance officer, detailed the circumstances, and requested that an order might be made by the Bench for the child to attend school. It appeared that from the 16th of March to the 29th of May, the mixed school had been open 94 times, out of which the boy had made 49 attendances. Previous to that, in the infants' school, from October 2nd to February 28th, out of 196 possible attendances, he had made 49 only.- Mrs. Pratley said her son was not, and had not been fit to attend school, and she was advised by the Bench that if such was the case she should get a doctor's certificate.- The order was granted.

CHADLINGTON.

DEATH OF A CHILD.

On Tuesday F. Westell, Esq. (coroner) held an inquest at the "Tite" Inn, on the body of Albert Henry Jubilee Pratley, who died on Sunday last. The evidence was as follows:-

Mary Ann Pratley, the mother, stated that deceased who was 14 months old, had been sickly from birth. On Sunday morning deceased was very sick. Witness gave deceased some brandy and milk, but at 3 o'clock the vomiting re-commenced, and about 5.30 witness' husband went for the doctor. The doctor did not come, but her husband brought back some medicine, but after he had had one dose decease died.

Louisa Callum, a neighbour, deposed to the last witness bringing deceased into her house on Sunday afternoon. She told the mother the deceased was dying, and advised that a doctor should be sent for. She was present with the deceased till he died. The mother gave him some brandy.

Mr. A. F. Wilson, of Chadlington, surgeon, stated that he gave the father of the deceased some medicine about 7 o'clock on Sunday evening. He had examined the body, and was of opinion that deceased died from exhaustion consequent on diarrhoea.

A verdict in accordance with the medical testimony was returned.
