CHADLINGTON.
DEATH OF A CHILD.
On Tuesday F. Westell, Esq. (coroner) held an inquest at the "Tite" Inn, on the body of Albert Henry Jubilee Pratley, who died on Sunday last. The evidence was as follows:-
Mary Ann Pratley, the mother, stated that deceased who was 14 months old, had been sickly from birth. On Sunday morning deceased was very sick. Witness gave deceased some brandy and milk, but at 3 o'clock the vomiting re-commenced, and about 5.30 witness' husband went for the doctor. The doctor did not come, but her husband brought back some medicine, but after he had had one dose decease died.
Louisa Callum, a neighbour, deposed to the last witness bringing deceased into her house on Sunday afternoon. She told the mother the deceased was dying, and advised that a doctor should be sent for. She was present with the deceased till he died. The mother gave him some brandy.
Mr. A. F. Wilson, of Chadlington, surgeon, stated that he gave the father of the deceased some medicine about 7 o'clock on Sunday evening. He had examined the body, and was of opinion that deceased died from exhaustion consequent on diarrhoea.
A verdict in accordance with the medical testimony was returned. |
