PETTY SESSIONS.

drunk and disorderly.

James Pratley, of Witney, was summoned for being drunk and disorderly in Corn Street, on the 12th October.

Defendant pleaded not guilty.

P.C. Timms deposed: About 11-15 p.m. on Saturday, October 12th, I was on duty in corn Street, when defendant came up to me drunk, and commenced making use of bad language. I advised him to go home, but he refused. A man named Spindlow caught hold of his arm, and tried to get him home, but he broke away and made use of bad language. Sergt. Dickenson then came up, and asked him to go home, but he refused, and subsequently the Sergeant took him home.

Sergeant Dickenson deposed: On the night in question, at twenty minutes past eleven, I was in duty in Corn-street when I saw the defendant drunk and making use of very bad language. The last witness tried to get him home but he refused to go. I then caught hold of him, and took him down to his house and put him indoors.

By the Bench: He offered no resistance.

Defendant said he was not drunk, having had only two pints of beer all evening.

Fined, including costs, 10s.

WITNEY.

Alleged Theft.- On Monday last P.S. Dickenson arrested John and Elizabeth Nichols, travelling hawkers, on a charge of stealing, from the refreshment room at Reading Station, on the 19th ult, a gold bracelet, with a spade guinea attached. It will be remembered that the woman figured prominently in an assault case some months ago. The male prisoner stated that he had bought the bracelet from a lodging house-keeper at Wallingford. This proved to be untrue, and subsequent enquiries revealed the fact that the woman sold the spade guinea for £1 to James Pratley, of this town, and the bracelet to Mrs. W.H. Cooper, the "Butchers' Arms," Corn Street for 4s. The prisoners have been removed to Reading.
