WITNEY.
accident to a milton carrier.- Mr. Pratley of Milton-under-Wychwood, a carrier well known in Witney, is laid up with a broken thigh, caused by a wheel of his cart passing over him. He was just starting out of Milton on Tuesday in last week, when his horse - a young one - slipped the bit, and the mullen came off as the animal moved forward. Pratley slipped on a bank by the side of the road and the wheel passed over one of his thighs, fracturing it. At the same time a bucket fell out of the cart, and the horse, thoroughly frightened dashed away towards Shipton, imperilling everything on the road, but fortunately keeping in the middle. Wonderful to say, he was stopped, after his long gallop, without doing or receiving any damage. Meanwhile Mr. Roberts, surgeon - close to whose house the accident occurred - attended to the injured man, and so successfully set the broken limb, that he is now progressing fast towards recovery. |
