FINSTOCK.
Property Sale.- On Friday evening Mr. George F. Mace, on behalf of Messrs. Paxton and Holiday, offered for sale by public auction, at the Crown Inn, the following properties situate in the parishes of Fawler, Finstock, and Charlbury. For the next lot, situate at Finstock Heath, on the main road leading to Witney, there was a keen competition. This property consisted of a stone-built and slated freehold dwelling-house, containing living room, back kitchen, lean-to scullery, two bedrooms, etc., and adjoining the garden is a piece of freehold arable land about an acre in extent, the whole let to Mr. Charles Prior at a rental of £7 per annum. Starting at £50, the biddings ran up rapidly until £140 was reached, the property being knocked down at that amount to Mr. Lewis Pratley, of the Plough Inn, Finstock. Four stone-built and slated copyhold cottages, situate at Finstock, and let to Messrs. G. Bayliss and Charles Pratley, at the annual rent of £9, comprised the next lot. Starting at £50, that sum was soon doubled, and yet more rapidly did the biddings run from £100 to £122, by regular offers of a sovereign each time, Mr. Reuben Tidmarsh being the purchaser at that amount. |
